The only Nordic MIPIM Challenger

"If I can show that a Norwegian startup can deliver a solution to a big global problem, I've achieved something important." Our CEO Susanne Sekkesæter talked to EiendomsWatch about being the only Nordic pick for MIPIM Challengers this year.
Who is Susanne, and what is MASE?
"I'm Susanne Sekkesæter, co-founder and CEO of the proptech company MASE Home. I have a master's in Industrial Economics and Technology Management from NTNU, and a background from Capgemini and Gartner, where I looked after long-term client relationships with global tech companies. I've spent most of my career outside Norway, but moved back when we started MASE Home."
"MASE develops robotic furniture and interior systems that make small homes more functional, so people can live large in small spaces. Our solutions raise living quality, sustainability and the value potential of a project. We already work with residential and hotel developers, and our first product, the MASE Bed, a robotic ceiling bed, has had very good feedback in both hotels and studio apartments."
Why start MASE?
"The idea came during the pandemic. I lived in a flat of under 30 m² in Milan, and I literally felt in my body how hard it is to live with little space and badly designed solutions. It hit both my productivity and my joy, and made me look for smarter solutions for small homes. After proper market research without finding anything that really solved the problem, I thought: maybe I should do it myself."
"Together with my co-founder, Martin Mascella, we saw a big global need to use space in cities better. Martin is a construction engineer with experience from internationally recognised projects like Waterfront di Levante in Genoa with Renzo Piano. Together we've built a portfolio of robotic interior solutions, including the MASE Bed, which we've applied to patent."
Update: the patent was granted in July 2026.
The only one from the Nordics
"Being picked as the only Nordic MIPIM Challenger is big for us, and maybe a little extra special."
"Real estate is a fairly traditional industry, but we see more players actively looking for products that improve space efficiency, sustainability and customer value. At MASE we work on exactly that every day: making more out of less. With rising costs and tight margins, the industry is paying more attention to innovation, and that message lands. I want to show that Nordic innovation can compete at the very top internationally."
What happens at MIPIM?
"MASE is in a growth phase. We're reaching a bigger market, while making sure we deliver high value in every project. In a short time we've brought on experienced investors and an advisory board, and signed partnerships and customer agreements at home with leading companies, including OBOS in an ongoing project at Vollebekk, and Birk & Co for Kvartal B62 in Drammen."
"We're now working actively to scale internationally, and we're in dialogue with several players in London, Berlin and Amsterdam about exciting projects."
"So MIPIM in March comes at the perfect time. We look forward to meeting international players, and maybe partners who share our ambition: housing projects with living quality in focus, or flexible hotel rooms. As a Challenger we're also invited to a full programme at the conference, with our own networking arena and discussions with several of Europe's industry leaders."
"As a MIPIM Challenger I want to help challenge the status quo, help bring young talent into the industry, and represent a new generation that cares about making our cities better places to live. If I can show that a Norwegian startup can deliver a solution to a big global problem, I've achieved something important."
