Kvartal B62: Birk & Co builds homes that live larger
On Bragernes, right in the centre of Drammen, developer Birk & Co is building Kvartal B62. Their promise is short: "Hjem som rommer mer". Homes that hold more. We're proud to be part of it.
You get more than your own four walls
Birk & Co starts with how people really live. In Kvartal B62 you get your own home, and you also get access to what they call delemeter: shared rooms spread through the block, built as an extension of your apartment. Guest rooms and other shared spaces add up to 185 m² of extra room you can use when you need it. On top of that come roof terraces, a shared courtyard and a sauna.
The block has everything from larger apartments to compact homes. The compact homes are where we come in.
22 m² that doesn't feel like 22 m²
To show what a compact home can be, Birk & Co built a full-size 22 m² prototype in its showhouse at Gjetergata 8. Every centimetre is planned. The main room is your living room and your bedroom: a sofa during the day, and at night a bed that comes down from the ceiling.
That bed is ours. When you don't need it, it sits up in the ceiling and the floor is yours, for the sofa, a table, friends over for dinner. One tap and you're back in the bedroom.
How we got here
We met Birk & Co through OBOS Living Lab, where our solutions were tested by people living in compact homes every day. Kvartal B62 became our first fully commercial delivery.
"It was a huge step for us, from pilots and testing to a real housing project in the market," says Susanne Sekkesæter, CEO and co-founder of MASE.
"We want the small homes in Kvartal B62 to feel generous. With the MASE bed, one room works as both living room and bedroom, and you don't have to give up the sofa or the bed."
Why this matters
Homes in Norwegian cities keep getting more expensive, and more of us live alone. Birk & Co shows the answer isn't just more square metres. It's better ones: compact homes that are planned down to the centimetre, generous shared rooms, and furniture that changes with your day.
That's what we build at MASE: interior adaptive robotics. No building work, we set it up for you.
Come and try it
